Cancer is the leading cause of death in Japan, accounting for approximately one in four deaths nationwide. However, cancers arise in a wide variety of organs, and their characteristics and treatment strategies vary significantly depending on the primary site. Furthermore, even among cancers originating from the same organ, individual tumors exhibit distinct features that differ from patient to patient. Therefore, selecting the most appropriate treatment strategy tailored to each cancer type is essential.
Pathological diagnosis plays a crucial role in identifying cancer types by examining tumor tissues under a microscope. In our research division, all researchers possess expertise in pathology. We conduct pathological and morphological analyses of cancer and other diseases as a foundation for our studies. Additionally, we integrate artificial intelligence (AI)-driven image analysis and molecular biological approaches to advance the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
